The Sacramento State tennis teams have a winning tradition and the newcomers this year are contributing to the team’s early success.
Newcomers to the women’s team are Clarisse Baca and Melissa Valenzuela. Baca is redshirting and is from Chihuahua, Mexico , where she played for Instituto La Salle de Chihuahua. Valenzuela is from Lima, Peru , where she played for Colegio Peruano Britanico. Valenzuela has five straight singles victories and has been part of four doubles victories.
The new players for the men’s team are freshmen Kiryl Harbatsiuk and Artur Klimenka, redshirts Brad Murdoch and Zach White, sophomore transfer Holden Ching and junior transfer Sven-David Rueff. Ching had an exciting victory in a match against Oregon that gave the Hornets the win on Jan. 27.
Klimenka, who teams with Ching for doubles play, also had a victory against Oregon while Rueff has scored victories in singles and doubles play. Harbatsiuk has not lost a match this season in singles or doubles play and is playing in the No. 1 role.
