The Sacramento State women’s basketball team’s shooting was as cold as it was outside.

The Hornets lost 77-46 thanks to their poor shooting at 24.5 percent, whereas the Weber State Wildcats shot 43.1 percent from the field.

“We shot the ball so poorly that we never gave ourselves a chance,” said Hornets coach Dan Muscatell.

The Hornets’ record is now 4-14, 2-4 in BSC, while the Wildcats improve to 8-10, 2-4 in BSC.

The Wildcats never gave up the lead to the Hornets since opening tip-off where they made three three-pointers to start the game and their lead grew to 34 during the second half.

The Hornets also started the game with five turnovers.

“It set the pace of the game,” said sophomore forward Charday Hunt. Hunt had nine points on 1-3 shooting, 7-10 from the free throw line and five rebounds.

“We tried to hustle,” said Hunt, “it was pretty hard and tough with them nailing every single shot they took and with their huge post.”

The Wildcats had 16 points off of turnovers at the half and only two during the second half.

“I think we need to just come out with a lot of fire every game because they just come out and they seem like they wanted it more even though we do want it,” said freshman guard/forward Emily Christensen, who had eight points and three rebounds. “We’re a young team and we need to realize that every game is going to be hard”

No player on the Hornets scored in double digits, but three players from the Wildcats did: Sara Tuomi (25), Caitlin Anderson (15), and Ali Thorderson (16)

The Wildcats ended the game by shooting 28-65 from the field, and 14-34 from the three-point line.

The Hornets’ next game is on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1:05 p.m. as they host Idaho State on “Pack the House Day.” Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and kids are invited to come early and make signs supporting their favorite Hornets players, as Sacramento State fans will attempt to set a new attendance record.

The game will be followed by a kids clinic for ages 13 and under, presented by Pepsi, led by the Hornet coaching staff and the team.
