The Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team earned just .05 points less than the San Jose State Spartans to lose its second consecutive home meet Friday in the Hornets Nest.

Although all three Hornet all-arounders were named to the top three spots, the Spartans held on to earn 192.800 points while the Hornets tallied 192.750.

Coach Kim Hughes felt that consistency was still a problem with the team and could have been a factor in missing the extra .05 point.

“Well obviously we counted a fall on beam and plus we had kind of some rough performances on beam?last week we nailed beam. It was just a huge turnaround,” Hughes said.

The slight difference in points earned was thought to have been because of the fact that although the team did not perform well on beam, it was made up for in floor performances.

“We also had a pretty good turnaround on floor for the positive. We had a lot of out of bounds last week and this week was very good on floor,” Hughes said.

Hughes said that the team still needs to work on being consistent in all four events in order to pull out victories in each meet.

“Obviously it is consistency. We really need to get on all four events,” Hughes said.

Consistency is also one of the factors that may be leading the Hornets in terms of earning high scores on each event. The all-arounders, junior Marina Borisova, senior Melissa Genovese and sophomore Eryn Stubblefield swept the top three spots for all-arounders.

“It is always nice to have three all-arounders sweep the top three just because that is three people with good scores so it is always nice to have that,” Stubblefield said.

Not every gymnast is made to be an all-arounder and everyone on the team recognizes the ability and strength that each one possesses.

“Being an all-arounder is a really hard position and I think they set a good example and it is a good position to be in. They keep going out each event and try to get four for four in each event,” Genovese said.

The Hornets will try and obtain another victory as they head out to take on San Jose State again on Friday.
