The women’s volleyball team beat Eastern Washington on Friday night, but due to the loss at Portland State, the team takes the second place seed in the Big Sky Conference this weekend.

On Friday night the Hornets took on the Eagles of Eastern Washington, winning the match 3-1 (24-20, 30-28, 30-11, 30-17).

The victory ensured that the Hornets could do no worse than second place even if they lost to Portland State.

The next night, the team traveled to the Stott Center to take on the Vikings of Portland State. Earlier this season, the Hornets beat the Vikings 3-2 at home. The Hornets lost the match 3-1, (25-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-28).

That match decided who would become first place midway through the season, as both teams came to the match with an undefeated record.

The loss puts the Hornets at 26-7 overall and 13-3 in the Big Sky Conference.

Senior Missie Stidham dominated the match against Portland State posting a career-high 34 kills. She also had 21 digs and three blocks to go along with her .276 hitting percentage.

Senior Michelle Franz led all players with eight blocks and freshman libero Chelsea Goodsell tacked on 28 digs.

The Hornets will play the highest remaining seed on Friday at 7:30 or 30 minutes after Semifinal one is over.

The Big Sky tournament will take place at home, in the Hornets Nest.
