McCoy named MVP; nine total honored
Senior Katie McCoy named Big Sky Offensive MVP to cap Sacramento State women’s soccer’s record nine Big Sky All-Conference honors.
McCoy was the unanimous pick for MVP as seven coaches (not including her own) voted for her. She led the Hornets to the conference title, ranking first with 31 points, tied for first with seven assists, third with 56 shots and 3.11 shots per game and posted 1.72 point per game, 12 goals, five game-winning goals and .67 goals per game.
She marked the first player to earn the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week three times in a row, and hit four this season, six throughout her career at Sac State.
McCoy was also awarded with the 2007 Golden Boot Award, which is given to the player who led the Big Sky in total points. With McCoy Sac State earned a record five player on first team (seniors Katie Burton and Amanda Gray, junior Kara Taylor and sophomore Kim Kemper). Junior Sarah Howard was named to the second team. Junior Missy Matzen, sophomore Mandy Trojan, and freshman Christina Trenton were honorable mentions.
Men’s basketball won exhibition
Sac State took out Cal State Martime 94-63 last Monday at the Hornets Nest. Loren Leath led the Hornets with 20 points, with four of the Hornets six 3-pointers. Vinnie McGhee, Justin Williams, and Justin Eller also scored double-figures with 14, 12, 11 points, respectively. Randy Adams led the team with six rebounds. The Hornets will travel to Kansas State on Friday then host Simpson on Monday at 7:05 p.m.
Women’s basketball pummel William Jessup
Sac State beat William Jessup 95-35 in an exhibition last Tuesday at the Hornets Nest. Sami Field-Polisso led the Hornets with 21 points, posting seven of eight 3-pointers. Chardy Hunt and Erika Edwards hit double-digits scoring 16 and 11 points, recpectivly. Hunt also led Sac State with nine rebounds. The Hornets will take on UC Davis on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Davis.
Women’s golf takes ninth place in Arroyo Grande
The Hornets took ninth after shooting 638 in their final fall tournament in the Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational last Tuesday.
Brooke Green shot 157 tieing 28th. Kim Coppin (158) tied for 31st, Erica Yoshino (159) tied for 33rd, Annie Becker (161), who competed as an individual tied for 36th, Samantha Saffold (164) tied for 50th, and Emily Longcrier (179).
