“It’s showtime baseball,” says Dominic Morris as he places his cleats back in a black bat-bag.

The Morris League is a recreational league co founded by twin brothers Donte and Dominic Morris. “It went from an idea to reality,” says Donte as he explains how this season was a great success, “We went from 10 players last season to 25 players this season.”

This season, the Morris brothers were able to put together two complete teams of collegiate level athletes in a ;Red Squad” and a “Black Squad” which play each other twice a week for one month.

“The teams are really equal, it’s surprising,” says Dominic Morris who held a makeshift tryout last month and split everyone into two teams.

In the final game of the second season of Morris League baseball, competition was close, which is a familiar occurrence for the Morris brothers. “Every game is a battle,” claims Dominic, who helped his Black Squad in a comeback victory over the Red Squad on Thursday Nov. 15 by a score of 4-3.

Kevin Stewart started on the mound for Donte’s Red Squad and Pat Rush for Dominic’s Black Squad. Stewart appeared to be dominating the game by striking out the side in the first two innings and helped his own cause and gave the Red Squad the lead with a bases loaded hit in the top of the second.

The two squads played closely until the Black Squad came back to take the lead 4-3 going into the seventh and final inning where the Red Squad threatened with Ralph Dominguez reaching on an error, then stealing a base. After a hard hit line drive and a strikeout, Red Squad was down to their final out and down by one when a pop out ended the game and put the Morris League bats at rest until next season.

“We put on an act for the guys, pretending to hate each other during the game,” says Dominic, “but when we get home we’re happy for whoever won? unless it’s a blowout of course.”

The Morris brothers plan to expand their league next season with four or six teams at Sacramento State and would like to include other nearby colleges in the future.
