Sacramento State settled for a 1-1 tie with Northern Colorado today in its last regular season road game of 2007. Senior Katie McCoy put the Hornets on the board in the 43rd minute by beating the goalkeeper one-on-one for an unassisted goal. It is McCoy’s 10th goal this season and the 23rd of her career. The Hornets headed into halftime with the lead, even though they were out-shot 10-6 in the first period. Sophomore goalkeeper Mandy Trojan helped keep Northern Colorado’s offense in check with four first-half saves. Sac State turned the tables in the second half, out-shooting the Bears 7-3 after halftime. Northern Colorado would tie the game in the 60th minute, however, on a penalty kick by senior Megan Miller. The game remained deadlocked at the end of regulation and the teams headed into overtime. The Bears dominated the shot category over the two overtime periods, holding a 5-1 advantage over the Hornets. Neither team could knock in the golden goal, however, and the match ended in a tie. It is the second consecutive tie for the Bears, who are 2-1-2 in conference play and 6-7-3 overall. The Hornets record is now 8-3-5 overall and they remain undefeated in conference play with a 2-0-3 record. They currently sit in second place in the Big Sky Conference standings, behind Weber State. Sac State finishes the season with only one road win, which came against Eastern Washington last Sunday, in eight opportunities. The Hornets are 1-3-4 overall away from Hornet Field. Sac State now returns home to wrap up the regular season with two final conference matches. The Hornets’ next game will be Sunday when they match up against Northern Arizona. They lost last year’s matchup with the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff 1-0. Sunday’s game is scheduled for noon.
