Men’s soccer nets first win of season
Blake and Brady Nunes lead the Hornets to the first victory of the season on Sunday as Sacramento State (1-7-1), beat Menlo (4-4) 4-1 at Hornet Soccer field. The Nunes brothers scored a goal each, while Fernando Cabadas and Ernesto Carranza scored one a piece.
Team wins season-high ninth consecutive game
Sac State (15-3, 4-0 Big Sky) volleyball won nine games in a row and swept five in a row after the victory over Weber State (5-8, 2-2) on Sunday. Senior Lindsay Haupt posted a career-high hitting percentage of .706 (13-1-17) along with 13 kills.
Haupt earns second Player of the Week
Sac State middle hitter Lindsay Hauptwas named the Big Sky Conference’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Men’s golf finishes eighth (tie) in second tourney
Junior Scott DeBorba (144) tied for fourth in the American Sky Championships, as the Hornets (584) took eighth in the overall team standings at the Purple and Red Invitational on Sept. 24. Overall, DeBorba (144) tied for 19th, Cody Miller (146) and Jeremy Harris (146) tied for 29th, Kyle Candlish (149) tied for 51st, and Grant Norton (154) tied for 72nd.
Trojan named soccer Player of the Week
Sac State sophomore goalkeeper Mandy Trojan was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week.
Tavalero named new assistant coach for rowing
Mike Connors named former volunteer assistant Vanessa Tavalero assistant rowing coach on Thursday. She will coach the novice crew and assist in recruiting.
Former Hornet basketball player drafted in CBA
Former Sac State leading scorer Haron Hargrave was picked by Albany Patroons to play in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) on Sept. 24.
Mulitalo named Player of Week
Sac State linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo was named the Big Sky Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week. He shared the honor with safety Kevin Retoriano of Montana State.
