Will.i.am, member of the group Black Eye Peas, just released his solo album on Tuesday entitled “Songs about Girls.”

Staying true to the CD title, a majority of the songs have to do about girls, but his songs are not for me.

Listening to a couple of the songs on his solo project, I must say his lyrics are quite repetitive, however, I could not help but move my head to the beat. Don’t get me wrong, you might not see me going down Howe Avenue on a Friday afternoon with his single “I Got it from My Mama” blasting from my speakers, but if it is played in the club it is a good song to dance to.

Rashuad Martin, Sacramento State alumnus and working DJ commented on the album.

“I like playing his (Will.i.am’s) music when I DJ parties, or if I work at a club,” Martin said. “His upbeat tempo makes people dance and move around.”

Will.i.am’s beats are also so catchy you cannot help but move to them. They have a hypnotizing sound that gets you stuck in a trance and you can’t help but listen to the whole track even if you don’t like it.

“You will definitely hear more of his songs off this CD like ‘Donque’ and ‘Heartbreaker’ being played at clubs and college parties,” Martin said.

Will.i.am got together with a couple of big-name artists such as Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg to add some flavor and originality to his songs.

The album is filled with 18 tracks, so you will definitely get your money’s worth. However, I can’t say that they are all quality.

Senior business marketing major Patrick Turner said, “I wouldn’t buy his album because all that pop stuff doesn’t appeal to me. He has no substance in his songs.”
