Volleyball finishes 2nd in Invite, two players honored
Oregon State won the Sacramento State Invitational and beat all three opponents. Sac State (2-1) finished second, Cal State Northridge (1-2) finished third and Manhattan (0-3) placed fourth.
Seniors Missie Stidham and Lindsay Haupt were named to the All-Tournament team, along with Rachel Rourke (MVP), Jill Sawatzky and Ashley Evans from Oregon State, Lynda Morales from CSN, and Rita Welsh from Manhattan.
Hornet tennis players represent Sac State
Six Hornet tennis players will represent Sacramento State men’s and women’s programs during the Intercollegiate Association (ITA) All-American Championships, which will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 7.
Sophomores Xavier Barajas-Smith and Anton Stryhas, along with freshman Kiryl Harbatsiuk, will be representing the men’s team. The men will compete in the Polo Ralph Lauren Men’s All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa.
Juniors Luba Schifris and Anastassia Lyssenko, and sophomore Katrina Zheltova from the women’s team will compete in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Prequalifying, qualifying and main draw rounds will be held at UCLA.
Men’s golf finishes 14th in Falcon Invitational
The Sacramento State men’s golf teams finished 14th on Sunday with a score of 894 in the final round of the Falcon Invitational.
Junior Scott DeBorba and sophomore Grant Norton led the Hornets during the final round shooting 70 and 71, respectively.
Wichita State and Iowa State tied for first with 852, but Wichita State snagged the title based on a tiebreaker.
Norton (218) finished 19th overall, DeBorba (223) placed 45th, Cody Miller (228) finished 63rd, Kyle Candlish (229) placed 67th and Jeremy Harris (239) placed 97th.
