Hornet volleyball wins Bama Bash
September 3, 2007
The flight home from Alabama will be a happy one for the Hornets volleyball team. The Hornets concluded the two-day Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Alabama today with a 3-0 record as well as the championship. The Hornets swept the University of Alabama at Birmingham to finish off the tournament.
The Hornets volleyball team defeated Alabama 3-1 in the second round of the Bama Bash Friday night in a game that saw continued outstanding play by senior Missie Stidham. Stidham lead the Hornets in every match and averaged almost six kills per game throughout the tournament.
Stidham earned most valuable player honors for the tournament and earned a spot on the all tournament team, along with fellow Hornets Lindsay Haupt and Jennifer Ferguson.
The Hornets defeated Illinois State 3-1 on Friday in the first round of the Bama Bash, ending Illinois State’s three match winning streak.
The Hornets’ record is now 6-2 on the season, as they suffered losses to both Ole Miss and Missouri State earlier this week. Both Ole Miss and Missouri State were in the NCAA Tournament last year.
The Hornets will return home to play their first home games of the season and host the fifth annual Sacramento State Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The Hornets play Oregon State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Manhattan and Northridge State in a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
