Hornet men hit the links hard, lead after second round

The Sacramento State men’s golf team is just one day away from doing what the women’s team did last week.

The Hornets are still in the lead by six strokes (287), but host Northern Colorado made a monster comeback going from a tie for fourth place to second place by itself with a 191 in the second day of the Independent Golf Championships on Saturday in Windsor Co.

Utah Valley State scored 296 to fall to third place.

“(Since) Northern Colorado made a big comeback today (and it being) their home golf course, we are going to have to play well tomorrow,” Sac State coach Adam Pohll said.

Freshman Grant Norton continued to lead the total individual rankings with an even par 72, but had a rocky day.

“I’m glad he was able to get an even par, it could have been worse,” Pohll said.

Pohll said he isn’t surprised that Norton is leading the pack because he has been doing it all year.

Sophomore Scott DeBorba lead Sac State in Saturday’s scores with a two under par 70, sophomore Cody Miller shot an even par 72, sophomore Jeremy Harris shot a one over par 73 and freshman Kyle Candlish shot a 75.
