“Awkward silences make me horny?my boner is not kosher. What’s kosher comedy about? I guess we’ll find out!”

These were just some of the off-the-wall lines brought to stage by comedian Sheng Wang at the Kosher Komedy Klassic hosted by the Jewish Student Union Thursday night.

Wang and the headliner of the evening, Brent Weinbach, both Bay-area based comic artists, livened up a crowd of 150 people in the University Union’s Redwood Room with humorous skits ranging from topics related to bodily functions, slam-poetry and even sailors.

The Jewish organization’s president, Aaron Kass, said this event was the first of its kind at Sacramento State.

The show was sponsored by many Jewish affiliated Sacramento based organizations including the Jewish Federation, Hillel and Temple B’nai Israel.

“The university also gave a very large generous chunk,” Kass said.

Associated Students Inc. and the Multi-Cultural Center also donated to help bring one of the Jewish group’s first on-campus events to life.

The comedy show was advertised heavily on both Sac State and UC Davis campuses, said Zak Davis, the program director for Hillel.

The audience members were Jewish and non-Jewish students from both colleges.

“It was unique. Different is good,” said Katie Peterson, a sophomore art major.

Kass and Davis said they hope to put on a bigger show on next year and want to try to get other on-campus groups involved too.
