Sacramento State toppled the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 5-2 Sunday afternoon, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in conference. The Hornets are now one match away from a perfect Big Sky regular season.
Once again Sac State won the doubles point. Anton Stryhas and Gabriel Loredo remained perfect at No. 1 doubles winning 8-2, No. 2 Hague Van Dillen and Xavier Barajas-Smith won 8-2 and the tandem of Ramon Perez and Warwick Foy won 8-4 at No. 3.
Leading the charge in singles were No. 1 Barajas-Smith and No. 5 Perez.
Barajas-Smith had a lot more intensity and rebounded from his last match, winning 6-1, 6-1.
“I had a better goal today and I tried to work harder than the other day,” he said.
Ramon Perez improved to 8-0 at No. 5 singles. However, it did not come easily.
Perez won the first set quickly 6-2. The second looked like deja vu until Perez’s opponent stormed back from 5-2 down to win 7-5. Perez prevailed 10-7 in the super tiebreak to take the match.
Meanwhile, No. 3 Gabriel Loredo won 6-2, 6-2 for his seventh straight match win and No. 2 Stryhas destroyed his opponent 6-1, 6-2.
Number 4 Warwick Foy and No. 6 Tim Lantin both fell in hard fought three set matches.
Sac State concludes Big Sky play and its four-match homestand against Montana at 1 p.m. on Monday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
