This year’s 79th Annual Academy Awards greeted viewers with a blast of fashion from Hollywood’s worthiest.

Drumroll please…It’s the best and worst of the Academy Awards.

My pick for best dressed is Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon wore a black tube top dress, with biased layered cuts on the bottom. The layers slowly turned to a shade of purple. Her blond locks were straightened and long. It was elegant and simple, something you can’t go wrong with.

There are two picks for worst dressed tonight: Eva Green, the new bond girl in “Casino Royale”, and Penelope Cruz, nominated for the Best Actress award.

It’s a shame Cruz’ nomination came with a bad fashion choice. She wore a blush-colored tube top dress. It was the bottom of the princess-puffed dress that made her look unusual. The bottom was made of fur, which didn’t combine well with the elegance of the top of her dress.

Green presented an award wearing a gray sheer dress that looked wrapped around her with huge sequins in the shoulder area. It looked like the sea wrapped her up and washed sea shells onto her shoulders.

Honorable mentions for other well-dressed celebrities include Cameron DIaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lopez. The trend seen throughout the night was big diamonds or jewels, a popular trend this year, and off the shoulder or tube dresses.

A relatively new brunette, Cameron Diaz, presented the award for Best Animated Film but all eyes were on her beautiful white off-shoulder gown with a thick fold on the top, body-fitted then flared on the bottom with an open front and a short train. Her look shined with big jeweled earrings, diamond bracelets and a stone ring.

Back in the spotlight, Gwyneth Paltrow presented the award for Best Costume Design wearing a sheer, blush-colored body-fitted dress with a low back. She followed the trend of big diamond jewels with earrings, bracelets and stoned rings.

Naomi Watts wore a yellow off shoulder tube with what looked like a black leather or satin wrap to cut the dress off at the empire waist. The dress could have gone without her excess shoulder material, but the night’s trend continued with Watts wearing a layered diamond necklace.

Appearing to present the “Dreamgirls” performance, Jennifer Lopez’ dress followed the big diamond trend the most. Her dress was gray with huge lines of big diamonds, cut off at the empire waist with another diamond line.

We can’t forget the men of the night. All looked as sleek as can be in their black pant suits and ties. Some in silk such as Tom Hanks, but some like former presidential candidate Al Gore, wore the classic tie suit.
