Hot spots to watch the Super Bowl
March 30, 2007
Baseball has been called “America’s Pastime,” and a man’s best friend is his dog. On Sunday all this change. The dog will be replaced with hot wings and a big screen TV, while baseball is not even a sparkle in a sports fan’s eye.
Instead, it is all about pigskin and cleats.
This year Super Bowl XLI will be taking place at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Fla. The Indianapolis Colts and The Chicago Bears will be competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy and the chance to be crowned Super Bowl Champions. The big question is, “Where will you be for the big day?”
Some of you might take a leap and head out to Miami, while others will stay in town and partake in festivities at a friend’s house. Sacramento is full of local bars, restaurants and pizza places catering to fans’ needs with drink specials, food and oversized TVs.
For those of you looking for a low-key environment, look no further. One street over from campus, located next to F65 on Folsom Boulevard. is Giovanni’s Pizzeria. Priding itself on traditional-style pizza, Giovanni’s carries an elite selection of toppings along with an array of specialty beers. They will be selling beer at $7 a pitcher. Budweiser and Bud Lite will be $5 a pitcher — just right for a college student’s pocket book. This year the pizzeria will be opening at 2 p.m. to ensure that everyone is ready for kickoff. They also have a big screen TV on which to enjoy the game.
Pyramid Alehouse, located at 1029 K St., is selling tickets in advance for their Super Bowl event. Tickets are $8 and include all-you-can-eat hamburgers and bratwursts. Ticket holders also get one free beer. After the first beer, pints are $2. Pyramid opens at 11 a.m. and will close 30 minutes after the game is over.
American River Sports Bar and Grill will kick off their Super Bowl tailgate party at 2 p.m. The bar and grill will have hot dogs, bratwursts, burgers and chicken, drink specials, prize giveaways, raffles, games and a bikini contest during halftime. Enjoy the game on one of American River’s 11 different satellite big screen and plasma TVs. Join the Coors and Bud girls at the party at 9580 Oak Avenue Pkwy in Folsom.
If you live outside of Sacramento, Club Onyx is holding its first Super Bowl party for the 21 and older crowd. Beginning at 11 a.m. the club will have free barbecue tri-tip sandwiches and sides. It will also have prizes to give away throughout the game. Watch your team on the club’s nine television screens. Stick around after the game to celebrate, as Onyx will have dancing, pool, darts and beer pong. Club Onyx is located in Old Roseville at 116 Main St.
These are just a few of the options as to where to watch the big game. Grab your friends, your cash and your appetite and head out to watch Super Bowl XLI. Now the only decision you have left is, who to root for — Colts or Bears?
