The 49th Annual Grammys is a night that honors the best of the best in the music industry, but it’s also a night where the best of the best strut their stuff in the hottest and trendiest outfits.

This year the men stole the show in casual wear.

Justin Timberlake performed wearing a casual blue collared shirt rolled to ¾ sleeves. He layered a vest over his shirt and added a skinny black tie. He casually topped his outfit off with white tennis shoes.

John Legend styled a dark-blue velvet blazer that looked awesome in his graceful performance with John Mayer and Corinne Bailey Rae. This talented artist was flawlessly casual.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who left with four Grammys, including Best Rock Album of the Year, appeared in their usual-unusual outfits with beanies, yellow suits, leather vests and capri-cut pants.

Of course, the worst-dressed list is always a part of any award show.

This year, Best New Artist winner, Carrie Underwood, is up for worst-dressed. She wore a simple black spaghetti-strapped dress underneath what looked like a tunic or sleeping gown, sheer black top. It looked like she was ready to go to sleep, but with tons of make-up and beautiful, golden locks.

Another mishap in worst-dressed was actress and singer Mandy Moore. She came out to present an award in a wrapped, floral dress that looked good, until she paired it with a polka dotted, black belt. Also, she was so tall that the dress fell right above her ankles, making her look awkward. The dirtily-put-up hair didn’t give her look a boost either.

My pick for the worst-dressed of Grammy night is singer Imogen Heap, who looked like she fell into a bush on her way to the award show. Her frizzed hair with green leaves and branch-looking pieces looked even worse with her outrageous outfit. Winning a Grammy couldn’t help give Heap a pass in fashion sense.

But singer Rihanna recovered the elegance of the night with her one-shoulder green dress that was cut on one side of the stomach area. The fitted dress had a low-cut back with a single strap. The dress also draped perfectly and beautifully to the ground. Rihanna was best-dressed of the night.

The Dixie Chicks started the night with a performance of their song, “Not Ready to Make Nice.” The performance was pure elegance thanks to their elegant style.

The lead singer, Natalie Maines, stood in the middle and wore a white tube dress with three layers of a ruffled bottom. The other members of the group wore black strapless mini dresses. The organization of their positions with the finesse of their strapless dresses and colors made The Dixie Chicks look fabulous.

Beyonce continued the style of elegance with a performance from one of her songs from the movie “Dreamgirls.”

She had perfect wavy locks with two white flowers on one side of her hair. Her signature style of big earrings went well with her sequin-fitted dress, which was of sheer material and a U-shaped neckline.

Mary J. Blige appeared on stage in an empire dress, a trend seen throughout the night. She topped her look off with a big belt. The dress was an ivory color with sequins and draped to her ankle.

Queen Latifah appeared in a black, tube, laced dress that was also set off a little bit under the empire waist.

After The Dixie Chicks’ opening performance, they changed into black empire dresses also. Maines’ chains and jewelry clashed with her dress. But the group took home five Grammys including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. For that reason, Maines’ mishap in her fashion sense can have a pass for now.

Nelly Furtado looked like she was ready for the warmer weather in a strapless dress that was very detailed with embroidered flowers and other designs. Her hair was in soft curls and shoulder-length. Furtado’s look brought warmth to the night’s fashion.

Natasha Bedingfield wore a simple white tube dress with a silk or satin bow that ran in the middle of the dress and then down the dress, creating a symmetrical look. It was a fresh look that brought simplicity and style together.

Christina Aguilera flashed the red lips in her performance at the award show. She wore a classic white pant suit. Her hair was styled wavy, but her end locks were tap-teased for extra poof. It was a not-so-good look for this talented singer.

Shakira wore a performance-ready look during her performance with Wyclef. She wore a gold top cut short under her bust, revealing her infamous stomach. Shakira wore a gold dress that draped to the ground.

Whether they took home an award or simply showed up red carpet-worthy, this year’s Grammys were filled with eye-catching and eye-popping clothes.
