Writers to give student workshops

Sacramento State will host the 20th annual Focus on Writers conference from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the University Union.

Seven writers will be at the Saturday event, giving one-hour lectures to students.

Chris Olander, who will be focusing on poetry, will give two one-hour sessions, starting at 10:15 a.m. in the Orchard Suite III. Another speaker will be Heather Estay, who will be having a workshop on romance novel writing at 11:30 a.m. in the Orchard Suite II.

Donna Levin will give two lectures titled “Craft of Fiction” at 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the Lobby Suite.

Judie Panneton will host a non-fiction writing session at 10:15 a.m. in the Orchard Suite III.

“Writing for Children” will be hosted by T.E. Watson at 10:15 a.m. in the Orchard Suite I.

Also, Victoria Zackheim will host a memoirs writing session at 11:30 a.m. in the Orchard Suite I.

The key note speaker of the event will be Beth Lisick, who will be speaking at 9 a.m. in the Hinde Auditorium. Liskick is the author of three novels, “Monkey Girls: “This Too Can Be Yours” and “Everyone Into the Pool.”

According to Mary Ellen Shay, the co-chair of the conference, Lisick used to be a columnist for sfgate.com before she became a full time writer.
