Women’s soccer beats Spartans on Kemper’s header

Junior forward Kayelyn Satkowski and freshman Kim Kemper scored a goal apiece to help the Sacramento State women’s soccer team to a come from behind 2-1 win against the Spartans of San Jose State Wednesday.

The Spartans drew first blood in the 27th minute. San Jose State’s Nicole Irwin placed a corner kick into the box that was unsuccessfully cleared. Spartans midfielder Cristin Murphy made the Hornets pay for the mistake by heading in the rebound.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Spartans until the 75th minute. Freshman midfielder Beverly Goebel crossed a ball from the left to the feet of Satkowski who found the net for her fourth goal of the season. The goal lengthened her team lead in the category. Satkowski has now scored a goal in four of the last five games. Goebel and Kelly Novak were credited with assists.

With just over a minute remaining it was Kemper who salted the game away. The freshman forward scored her second goal of the season on a header in the 89th minute. Goebel got her second assist of the game and her team-leading fourth of the season.

The win boosted the Hornets to 4-2 on the season while the Spartans fell to 1-4-1 with the loss. Sac State’s next game is at home Friday against Menlo at 3 p.m.
