Hornets blank Idaho 6-0

It took a while for things to click for the Sacramento State women’s soccer team, but once it started it didn’t stop. In the final 55 minutes of the game the Hornets scored six times to put a huge opening dent in their three-game road trip.

The first was an own goal by Idaho before Natalia Romo scored six minutes later. In the 50th minute freshman Beverly Goebel scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Katie McCoy.

Seven minutes later it was Kayelyn Satkowski coming through with her third goal of the season on assists from McCoy and Kelly Novak. Satkowski now has a goal in three straight games and leads the team with her three goals.

McCoy put a stamp on her big day in the 54th minute when she beat the keeper for a goal on an assist from Goebel.

In the 72nd minute the scoring came to an end with another Hornet freshman coming through with her first collegiate goal. Forward Kim Kemper scored on an assist from sophomore Chelsea Poovey to end the 6-0 blowout.

Hornet goalkeepers Mandy Trojan and Jenny Lawrence each played a half to share the shutout. Each keeper made one save.

The win improved Sac State’s record to 3-1 and marked the team’s third-straight win. Idaho falls to 0-5 on the season with the loss.

Sac State next plays the Cougars of Washington State at noon tomorrow.
