In an effort to help students try to relax before they take their tests, the Psychological Counseling Services will hold a free test preparation event from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The event, which will be held on the second floor of the Health Center, will be facilitated by psychologist Brian Pifferini and he will be facilitating with graduate student Adam Forni.

“There is an interest in helping people deal with negative anxiety about testing,” Pifferini said. “We have found that the best way to help a lot of people at the same time is through putting people in groups.”

Lawrence Meyers, a psychology professor at Sacramento State, said trying to help people deal with their anxiety is a good thing.

“Anxiety can be good up until a certain point, where it would fire up a person’s system, but when the anxiety goes past that point then the anxiety can become destructive,” Meyers said.

Meyers also said teaching people how to control their anxiety is a good thing because it would help people to relax before they take a test.

People can sign up for the event by calling Psychological Counseling Services at 278-6416, or people can just walk into the event.
