Something Corporate guitar player Josh Partington says if he weren’t in a band, he would be a lawyer.

Thankfully, for fans of the band, Partington stuck with the guitar, allowing him and the band to rock Sacramento State Wednesday night in the University Union Ballroom.

The band opened its set with &Fall,& a song from its second album, &Leaving Through the Window.&

Lead singer Andrew McMahon interacted with the crowd throughout the hour and a half the band was on stage.

McMahon wowed the crowd with his piano playing and his on-stage dancing. When he wasn&t on the piano, McMahon would run around the stage dancing with fellow band members and singing to the crowd.

At times, when he was rocking out, he would stand on his piano and dance on top of it, resulting in loud cheers from the more than 1,000 in attendance.

The band would play &21 & Invincible,& &The Astronaut& and &Only Ashes& before getting to the fan favorite, &Drunk Girl.&

McMahon said this was the second time the band has played &Drunk Girl& this tour, but found it fitting to play it at a college setting.

One song later, the band played another hit song, &If U C Jordan.&

Partington said the song was written for a bully who used to pick on McMahon. McMahon wrote the song as a joke, but Partington said he insisted that the band play the song.

After a few more songs, the crowd began to chant, &Konstantine, Konstantine, Konstantine.&

Partington said &Konstantine,& a song over nine minutes long with mainly the piano and vocals, is the most requested song by fans.

Partington said that to this day, he doesn&t understand why fans love that song so much.

McMahon said he wrote the song to try to win a girl back.

The band then played &Punk Rock Princess,& which made the crowd jump. The band ended its set with &Space& and &Hurricane.&

None of the members had any embarrassing moments on stage, but Partington said it has happened before.

&We&ve all tripped, we&ve all fell down and we&ve all sprained our ankle,& he said.

He also said he once played almost an entire set with his fly down.

Partington said he loves his job and loves to tour. Instead of seeing new places, he said he loves meeting new people.

Before the band, Partington said some of the members worked as waiters, while some worked at a hotel.

After the band, Partington hopes to work on his record label and he hopes to one day open up a guitar shop.

One piece of advice Partington left Sac State students was to never think that they are better than someone else.

&No matter how good you are at something, there&s someone better than you and that&s OK,& Partington said. &That&s a big deal.&

For those students who still don&t know what they are looking for, Partington said: &Just go do something, because what you end up doing is so different than what you started. I probably won&t be doing this for the rest of my life, but it doesn&t mean I shouldn&t be doing it now.&

Overall, the sound for Something Corporate was exceptional; however, the opening acts sound could have been better.

The opening acts, Straylight Run, The Academy Is& and Armor For Sleep, were solid instrumentally. However, the vocals were drowned out and it was difficult to understand the lyrics.
