Not into hardcore rap? De La Soul is the band for you. Hip Hoppioneers De La Soul will be performing at Sacramento State thisThursday. Hailing from Long Island, New York, De La Soul &-the band that was once called “hippie of hip hop”&- consists of Posdnous (Kelvin Mercer), Trugoy the Dove(David Jude), and Pasemaster Mace (Vincent Lamont.)
One thing for sure about this trio is that they do not soundlike most people in the hip hop business. Less harsh than manyother rappers, De La Soul’s easy-going rhythms have helpedthem to cross over into a wider market, something most rappers havebeen unable to do.
But like most events, it’s the afterparty that everyonewill be excited about. It’s hard not to be when the band willbe at the actual after party hosting the night. De La Soul’safter party will be held at 12s, a record store on Broadway.
“It’s a chance for people to come and hang out withthe band,” owner of 12s Nino Machado says. De La Sol albumswill be available for sale at the store. “We are promotingthe event to promote the store,” says Machado. There are alsoplans to have autograph signings. “We are really excited tohave such a big band come out,” Machado adds.
“With the light hip hop is in in the Sacramento area, weare happy to have the positive feel…De La Soul is a very positiveband,” Machado explains.
The afterparty will be open to those over 21. “We aretreating it like an exclusive event. There will be spinning andit’s a good chance for people to come out and relax anddance,” Machado says.
