Sisterhood is a pretty powerful thing. Sororities in general arepowerful groups of women &- the relationships, the bonds, thetrust involved. And while two sororities together are stronger thanone, nine seems to be the magic number that it takes to pull offtasks such as Greek Week and formal Recruitment.
The Panhellenic Council of Sacramento State is made up of ninesororities. Seven are national sororities. These sororitiesincluded Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Phi, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma,Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Kappa. Two areassociated sororities, which include Alpha Kappa Delta Phi and ChiDelta.
The Panhellenic Council has been very busy lately with theplanning of Greek Week.
“The entire Greek Week is planned though the PanhellenicCouncil,” says Panhellenic president Colleen Ripchick.
Greek Week is an annual eight-day event that will be held April16 – 23. Each day sororities and fraternities compete in order toearn points. The chapter with the most points at the end of theeight days wins Greek Week.
“The planning is coming along great …” saysRipchick, who has been working on this for quite some time now.”We are really just trying to over-plan this as much as wecan so that everything runs smoothly.”
The Panhellenic Council meets every Tuesday night. Arepresentative from each sorority attends to discuss both short andlong-term goals. Short-term goals include trying to get all thechapter’s GPA up one point for this semester.
“There’s always room for improvement,”Ripchick explained.
This semester the council is also working hard on turning overmoney to next year’s members.
“We’d like to be able to give them some amount ofmoney to work with,” Ripchick said.
The Panhellenic Council is also constantly working onrecruitment. The council is always pushing to make the Greek worldbigger at Sac State.
“The council, along with IFC, mutually pushes forrecruitment,” Ripchick said.
So whether the Council is discussing Greek Week or recruitment, they are always involved and working hard on issues and trying toimprove the Greek community at Sac State.
