Sacramento State?s women?s soccer team returned home with a 4-0 road loss to the University of Montana Friday.

The defeat brings the Hornets? record down to 5-7-1 and 3-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Montana currently has a record of 5-6, 1-2 in the conference.

The Hornets were outshot by the Grizzlies, despite sophomore goal keeper Amy Seely?s 13 saves.

Montana?s Erin Smith scored the first goal for the Grizzlies in the 30th minute of the game. Heather Olson scored in the 43rd minute, giving the Grizzlies a two-point lead at the half.

Montana continued to dominate as Tammy Hartung scored in the 49th and Olson tallied her second goal of the game in the 76th minute of the match.

The Hornets fought through cold, wet conditions but claimed there were “no excuses” for the loss.

“We had a defensive breakdown,” said head coach Sandra Asimos. “We all had different energies going on the field.”

The Hornets plan to put Montana in the past and focus on their future games. Last season, the Grizzlies eliminated the Hornets from the conference semifinals, 5-0.

There are only four games left in the 2001 season, two of which are Big Sky matches.

“This week, we are regrouping,” Asimos said.

Sac State will be on the road again and will go up against Weber State University on Friday. The Hornets beat Weber State last year and hope to repeat that victory this year.

The Hornets will take on the Idaho State University Bengals Sunday, their final Big Sky match of the season. The game starts at 1 p.m. at the Hornet Soccer Field.
