Local favorite The Brodys make good on new
October 31, 2001
Most bands break up before ever exiting the garage. The members realize that it takes undying commitment to make it in the most ridiculously unfair industry in the world, and head off for solo careers at community college.
A few bands make it all the way to MTV?s Total Request Live or the number one spot on an overseas top-20 chart. Ahhh, sweet success. This, while the truly talented bands barely keep their heads above water playing for a fan base that genuinely appreciates their music.
After more than five years of relentlessly bombarding northern California with energetic live performances and four albums, The Brodys have achieved a level of success that only passionate musicians can achieve.
Their fourth album, “Unexamined Life,” scheduled for release Nov. 11, is a 10-song record of music lovers doing what they do best: loving music. The Brodys have traditionally performed energetic live shows, and this album keeps that level of energy throughout. The band tackles childhood regret, mid-20s crisis and even gender identity. The album reaches beyond clever with “14 Miles Away,” and beyond sad with “Next Life.”
“Unexamined Life” will probably not get The Brodys a major record deal, or even get them out of the bars they play in now, but this might be a good thing., It keeps the band accessible.
