2000 Watts of Tyrese

Tina Jamias

Wearing headphones and singing a Coca-Cola tune on the bus was the big break that lead Tyrese to his second album, titled “2000 Watts.”

Tyrese?s honest ability to express each emotion on this album comes from the fact that it includes lyrical content of his real life.

“I?m saying exactly what I want to say on this album,” he said in an RCA press release. “Basically, if you want to know who I am and what I was going through at the time I was making this album, you?ll hear me sing about it.”

In the song “I Ain?t the One,” Tyrese sings his stance about gold diggers. It is a synthesized jam that has a strong dance appeal. He sings “All the trips around the world, girl, that ain?t me/ all the diamonds and pearls don?t come easy/ I?m not trying to buy your love with luxuries/ baby, all I want is you to be with me.”

A wistful piano run begins the track “I?m Sorry,” a sorrowful ballad. He sings about being sorry for breaking a woman?s heart. “It hurts to move on ?cuz you?re all I knew/ But I must stay strong/ I can?t break down no more/ Sometimes I sit and dream of you and me again.” An acoustic guitar compliments Tyrese?s painful lyrics as an easy rhythm section carries him through.

The first single, “I Like Them Girls,” is an anthem of female appreciation. It?s nothing like his hits, “Sweet Lady” and “Lately” from his self-titled album. Because he is now 22 years old, Tyrese felt that it was time to become a little more risky for this album. “The tattoos are out and this is out and that?s out, we just gonna have fun with it,” he said in emixshow magazine.

“I Like Them Girls” is another typical male track about glorifying sexy women at the clubs. It?s a dance track with synthesized sounds and an acoustic guitar. His lyrics include, “I like the girls with the candy thighs/ kissable lips and the big brown eyes?that?s the kind of girl I need.”

Despite his busy life as an actor and a model, Tyrese still manages to stick with his true love, singing. “2000 Watts” is all Tyrese. It is his personal take on past experiences in relationships and his home city of Watts.

With his honest passion for singing, Tyrese?s voice has no boundaries. This album exposes his life without any hesitation.
