Architect Aaron Betsky to speak on campus Thursday

On Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m., come and listen to well known author Aaron Betsky speak on “Architecture Must Burn,” in the University Union’s Hinde Auditorium.

Besky is the controversial curator of architecture and design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Besky, also famous for his eight books on architecture, will focus his lecture on the challenges facing contemporary building design and he will include excerpts from his recently published book, “Architecture Must Burn.”

“We live in a world of sprawl. Not only are our cities turning into carpets of humanity that erase the boundary between urban areas and nature but our information is sprawling all around us in the electrosphere,” Betsky says. “We wander through this sprawling landscape as urban nomads. It does little good to try to control sprawl or make it look good. The real questions designers must answer are: how can we find our way through, make ourselves at home in, and make sense out of a world of sprawl?”

Aside from his many tasks at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts, Betsky is also the editor-at-large for Architecture Magazine and a contributing editor for Metropolitan Home, Blueprint and ID magazines.

The lecture is part of Sac State’s ninth annual “Festival of the Arts.” The Festival continues until March 31 and includes free and ticketed events.
