“Squelch” eases college blues
February 21, 2001
What is more exciting than going on a road trip for the summer to ease your college blues? How about being followed by a revengeful trucker on that road trip?
That is what happens to Lewis Thomas in the upcoming thriller, “Squelch,” released by Twentieth Century Fox and New Regency.
Lewis, played by Paul Walker, (“Skulls,” “Varsity Blues”) is a college freshman who takes a cross country road trip to pick up the girl of his dreams, Venna, played by Leelee Sobieski (“Eyes Wide Shut,” “Never Been Kissed”). On his way to Venna, Lewis rescues his older brother, Fuller, played by Steve Zahn (“You?ve Got Mail,” “Saving Silverman”). Unfortunately, Fuller puts a halt on his brother?s romantic hopes with Venna.
Through the citizens band radio, Fuller convinces Lewis to play a practical joke on a trucker. They know the trucker only through his CB radio handle, Rusty Nail. Rusty Nail takes their joke seriously and makes it a point to get back at the prankster brothers through revenge.
With director John Dahl, who has created films such as “Red Rock West” and “The Last Seduction,” Twentieth Century Fox promises “Squelch” to have “a contemporary tone rich in character, as well as thrills and laughs.”
“Squelch” will premiere on the silver screen March 9.
