Degrading Women In The SeXFL

Joshua Wood

Their commercials stuck a cord deep in America?s heart?with talk of glory, honor, and true heroic men bringing pride back to a beloved game. Well known figures like Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura caroused us with a pitch of a game that was about the fans, about the American will, and about hardcore in your face football. However, from the midst of the Xtreme football League would arise a new dimension?well, two if you count the crappy football.

This new dimension features a total disregard for women as anything more than sex toys was more apparent during the night than their lame excuse for a football game. Though unrelenting shots of half-naked cheerleaders shaking the butts into the camera got old quick. The idea that women in bikini?s at the end of the end zone caressing themselves while swimming around in hot tubs had anything to do with football was ridiculous. I was trying to watch a crappy football game. But all I saw was sex being lodged down my throat.

But don?t forget, here in the XFL we?re all about the game.

Like all other groups in America, women have fought long hard battle?s to be given the respect they deserve. Their journey to true freedom began when our men went off to fight during World War II. America?s women dropped their aprons and went out into the work force to perform jobs that would keep the country running.

Problems arose when the men came back and it was apparent that our ladies wouldn?t settle for just aprons anymore. From that point on women have fought to be looked at as more than just sex toys, or housewives. Was it a fruitless battle?

After all every American who has watched television today knows that sexy women sell. Our cars are sold by half-naked women, our favorite television shows range from Temptation Island to Baywatch and now we have the XFL.

Just show some skin and get men horny?after all it?s your job, isn?t it?

Speaking of jobs, with all the tasking responsibilities that come from the being the XFL poster boy, Governor Ventura must be busy.

And I thought he had a state to run?

The movie The Replacements brought the XFL idea into the homes of Americans. After all, you didn?t think a new football league with players who have something to prove and cheerleaders who are all about sex was a new idea, did you? The actual idea for an alternative football league goes way back to the days of summer NFL. (With all the success of the National Football League it?s no wonder somebody?s trying to tap in on the gold).

There are many parallels between the movie and the XFL. To gain the attention of the fans the cheerleaders became more of a focal point during the game.

Another parallel with the movie is the players dating the cheerleaders. The XFL now plans to encourage their cheerleaders to date the players so that they can have a tell all during the game. Won?t that be fun!

Here in the XFL were all about the game.
