Students donate food and win prizes

A mountain of cans was donated to the Sacramento Food Bank in “Take it to the Summit,” a canned food drive, on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The food drive, sponsored by Folsom Chevrolet and the American Marketing Association, CSUS Collegiate Chapter, featured the opportunity to win many prizes, including a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer and a trip to Lake Tahoe.

“I had two chances to win the Chevrolet Blazer because I donated two cans,” said Mandy Johnstone, a junior in Psychology at Sac State.

In order to win the Blazer, you had to pick six random numbers and punch them into a keypad that would tell if you picked the correct numbers.

Those who did not win received a consolation prize, a card for a $9.95 oil change and free vehicle inspection, courtesy of Folsom Chevrolet.

In addition to a live band, The Mother Hips, music was provided from KSSU 1580 AM, the Sac State-run radio during breaks.

“The band was really good, it was fun to hang out, and it makes me feel good doing something for people in need,” said Evelyn Gonzales, a Sociology major at Sac State who attended the food drive.

The Sacramento Food Bank Services is dedicated to assisting those in need. To participate, contact the Spirit of Giving Office at (916) 456-1980 or www.SFBS.org.
