With all the radio stations surrounding the Sacramento area, the “bombest” of them all is located in the heart of Old Sacramento. With a huge colorful mural painted inside the building, KBMB 103.5 “the Bomb” has just celebrated its third-year anniversary in hopes to be around for many more.

Listeners opened their ears in November of ’97 when KBMB hit the airwaves playing only the top Hip-Hop and R & B hits. Since then they have gained a wide audience ranging from ages 18 through 34.

KBMB, which is Sacramento’s number one Contemporary Hits Radio station, is very community oriented and believes in giving back to the communities that have showed them love and have made them the first choice for Hip Hop.

KBMB is a radio station that encourages students to continue their education at either a junior college level or higher, said Sana Guzman, promotions director and also on-air talent for 103.5. They try to be involved with local high schools and colleges as well.

“We try to be involved with every single event Sac State has to offer,” said Guzman.

A regular work day for the Bomb starts off with the ever popular Doug Banks Morning Show which is heard in various cities like that of Sacramento from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., but based in Texas.

“The Doug Banks show is the most developed urban-slant morning show out there,” said Guzman. “It brings a positive spirit to people,” she said.

Next up is Guzman, also known as “Sana G the Latin Diva,” who is on air between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Guzman show is filled with non-stop entertainment for the afternoon listeners. She fills them in on entertainment news, plays the 11 o’clock all request and dedication hour, and has the mid day mix with DJ Tosh.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is on-air personality “D-Funk,” also known as William Jenkins. Jenkins’ show, titled, “The Afternoon Flava show with D-Funk” is centered on D-Funks funky four plus one more and The Phat Mix at 5 with DJ Tone Pesci. Jenkins, who has been with the company for about 2 years now says that working for KBMB is “very enjoyable.”

Of course who could forget Kickin’ it with the Big Kid Bootz, who goes on air from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bootz, also known as Zachery Woodruff, fills his show with exciting events such as the high school holla, the 7 o’clock bomb 7, and the Bump it or Dump it.

Ending the night for KBMB is slow jams from 10 p.m. to midnight and the bomb mixshow from midnight to 2 a.m.

Bianca Pineda, a junior at Sac State, says that she’s been listening to the Bomb ever since it hit airwaves. “The Bomb plays music I like that other stations don’t play,” said Pineda.

From their talented on-air personalities to their bomb squad mixers, KBMB live Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop and R & B culture is represented daily at 103.5 and within time will only get better.
