Crismen hopes to lead inline hockey team to victory
November 2, 2000
Cameron Crismen, the captain for Sac State’s inline hockey who led the team to a league championship three years back, has returned to Sac State to try and bring success to the floundering team.
With the help of freshman assistant captain Luis Pelayo and their new goalie Mike Lim from Texas, the team has a lot of talent. However, their depth is a problem.
The idea that inline is a less important sport than ice hockey or any other sport for that matter has reduced dedication to the team.
“We have had people drop the team because they also play ice hockey and it causes conflict in their schedule,” Crismen said. “We do not have enough players and commitment.”
With only two lines of players compared to a minimum of three for their opponents, Crismen is begging those who have the talent to play.
“They can come and try out for the team anytime with a certain level of commitment,” Crismen said. “Inline has come a long way and is a great sport.”
The whole league progressed from nothing in about five years, into a pretty well organized sport with several divisions.
“The level of play is a lot higher with a 20 game season and playoffs,” Crismen said.
Sac State will play in Davis on Nov. 11th and 12th against Davis, Chico State and Sonoma State. Then in December, the Hornets will travel to Los Angeles and face off against Cal Poly, Santa Barbara and San Diego State. They will also scrimmage against Davis every other Monday.
Inline hockey differs from ice hockey in that inline players get around on roller blades, play on a plastic called sport court, it’s technically no contact and the puck is about four times lighter than the ones used for ice hockey.
Practices take place every Saturday making it easier for those with full school schedules. To join the team you can get in touch with the recreation center.
