FRIDAY OCTOBER 6

THE HISTORY OF SACRAMENTO BASEBALL, from 1859 to the present, will be on display through Oct. 22 at the Discovery Museum,101 I St., Old Sacramento. The museum is open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youths 13-17, $3 for children 5-12 and free to those under 5.

THE CHEESEBALLS, a disco band, will perform at Harlow?s, 2708 J St., Sacramento. Tickets are $15 and the show begins at 10 p.m. For more information call 441-4693.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 7

THE FORTH ANNUAL ALMOND FESTIVAL, titled “Go Nuts in the Park” will be held at John Muir Park, 16th and C streets, Sacramento. The festival will include carnival games, arts and crafts vendors, an almond cook-off contest, cooking demonstrations and live entertainment. The festival begins at 3 p.m. There will be free hotdogs, chips and soda for the first 399 children 12 and under. For more information, call 264-7339.

THE SACRAMENTO FIRE DEPARTMENT is sponsoring Prevention 2000, a free fire and health safety festival at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be free health screening, fire safety demonstrations and traffic safety tips. For more information call, 264-8790.

THE SIXTH ANNUAL Elk Grove Community Harvest and Giant Pumpkin Festival will be held at the Elk Grove Regional Park from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Attractions include huge pumpkins, scarecrows, a crafts fair, petting zoo and hay and pony rides. For more information, call 685-3917.

THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME has opened registration for a naturalist-led tour to see the fly-in of the sand hill cranes. Late afternoon trips are scheduled every Sunday and the second Thursday of the month from Oct. 8 through Feb. 25. A $5 donation per adult is requested. A PSYCHIC AND HEALING ARTS FESTIVAL is being held at the Radisson Hotel, 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The fair will include professional psychics, henna tattoos, flute healing, massages and free lectures on various topics.
