“Forum to tackle immigration laws, globalization and civil rights”
October 10, 2000
A forum on issues and policies in immigration will be held in Hinde Auditorium in the University Union on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 13 and 14.
The two-day forum will include panels on such issues as law and policy, globalization, amnesty and employer sanctions and immigrant workers.
“It will feature a number of panelists, including nationally-known Bill Fletcher and Dolores Huerta,” said Eric Vega, a lecturer in the Sacramento State Ethnic Studies department and contact for the forum.
The coordinators of the forum had three main goals, Vega said.
“We wanted to provide information for students about immigration law and policy, we wanted to connect students with organizations that do immigration and civil rights work and we wanted to have advocates talk about policies and their personal experiences,” Vega said. The forum will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and is open to the public. For more information, contact Eric Vega at 278-6619 or 455-8921.
