Career Fair a success
October 18, 2000
The fall Career Fair went off without a hitch Wednesday. With 127 companies represented, the energy was high with prospects of getting the right job and hiring the right people.
“We are looking for elite engineering grads with a minimum 3.0 G.P.A or higher who posses leadership skills and some job experience,” said Min Jin, a Process Engineer for Intel who graduated himself from Sacramento State in spring of 2000 and was hired right out of college.
Jin also said he received 20 resumes in 2 hours.
“Our goal is to recruit the ‘cream of the crop.'” Robb Spitz, from Barclays Global Investing said. Barclays is a money managing company. “We manage $200 to $800 billion. A lot of students don’t know about the firm – I didn’t,” Spitz. said.
Barclays was looking for mostly economics, business, and accounting major graduates.
An MIS major, Tom Rowell, said he was there to “see what’s out there. I’m hoping to pass our a stack of resumes.”
” I think it (the fair) had a larger variety this year. Lots of stuff for Social Science majors which surprised me,” Alana Glen, a government major, said.
Although the Intel booth was the most packed with people, Carol Billing, Career Event Specialist, said, “I walked the floor three times and I didn’t see any representatives not talking with students.”
Billing also said, “I haven’t tallied all the data yet but I believe we had more students attend this fair than the ones in the past.”
The Career Center holds a Career Fair every semester.
“The next Career Fair will be held April 4 and 5, two days this time since so many were interested,” Billing said.
There will also be a Job Fair on February 21, highlighting more internships, part-time jobs and career fields.
