Open Forum sponsored by Sacramento State Multi Cultural Center
September 10, 2000
To kick off the calendar of events for the Sacramento State Multi-Cultural Center there is an open forum discussion scheduled for Tuesday in the University Union Foothill Suite at noon.
According to Theresa Shelton, Program Advisor for the center, the forum’s intent is “to discuss the differences and biases” between cultures in a free-speaking manner open to all.
“This will allow people to share experiences in an open dialogue without fear of faculty-student relationships,” said Leonard Valdez, director for the center. “Titles are not an issue.”
According to Valdez, the racially-motivated bomb threats in recent campus history and the arrest of Gustavo Chavez at last year’s Causway Classic football game have both contributed to the “raised racial tensions” at Sacramento State. The forum is designed to anticipate future crises and means of coping with them in a constructive public discussion. This forum, like the majority of events sponsored by the Multi-Cultural Center, is free and open to the general public as well as students.
For more information, contact the Multi-Cultural Center at 278-6101. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
