Campus forced to close all restrooms
September 11, 2000
All of the restrooms on campus were closed shortly after noon Tuesday due to a sewage problem in the city.
“There is a sewage problem with the city which is affecting the campus,” said Donna Thomason, of the president?s office.
The problem has pulled administrators from all departments to assess the situation. Jon Self, associate vice president for finance said, “Howard Harris [director of facilities management] is talking to the city to try and figure out the prognosis on when the problem will be fixed.”
Self said if the city doesn?t have a definite time on when the sewage problem will be fixed ? or it won?t be fixed ? until later this afternoon then the administrators involved will be forced to make a recommendation to the President to close the campus.
Although the restrooms have only been closed since about noon, the problem is already affecting the student population.
“Actually, this is the fourth restroom I?ve been to this afternoon,” said Sarah Ruznov, a business major. “It?s a little frustrating. I guess I have to leave off campus in the little amount of time I have [in between classes].”
Brandon Walker, a business major, is taking an alternative measure to ensure that the restroom situation will not affect him.
“I?m not drinking or eating anything,” Walker said.
By 1L30 p.m., some classes were being cancelled by instructors due to the problem.
