Back to school for Senate candidate
September 7, 2000
Senate candidate Tom Campbell will be speaking at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Joe Serna Jr. plaza as part of a visit associated with the Political Studies and Criminal Justice departments.
Campbell, a Silicon Valley Republican, is challenging Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Campbell is expected to address the main topics of his running platform, including women’s rights, campaign reform, open primaries, and higher education.
The visit is in response to the University Union’s call to all candidates to come to campus and present their ideas in a student forum that allows the opportunity to get more involved in the political arena and politicians another chance to earn needed votes.
University Union Program advisor Bill Olmsted said the University does not support any candidates but provides the forum.
“The University gives no endorsement to any political candidates,” he said.
