‘The Station’ stalls on the tracks
February 26, 2008
Last Saturday my friends and I decided to leave the comfort of the Midtown Sacramento bar scene and go to The Station in Roseville. With bars like Pinecove and Whiskey Wilds being our frequent watering holes we commuted to drink and have a good time. I normally don’t go to clubs because I hate paying a cover charge then paying for drinks but because we were on the list I decided to try it out anyway.
Located on Orlando Avenue right off Auburn Boulevard in Roseville, The Station seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. Not quite in the heart of Roseville it is about a 15-minute drive out of Sacramento. The outside looks like a train station but that is where the train motif stops.
Walking in, the theme is black with red and white accents. There are two bars and a huge dance floor. The best thing about the club is that there is plenty of seating even if you don’t rent a VIP booth. There is seating adjacent to the dance floor so you can hear yourself and others around you. Also you have a cocktail waitress that is designated to your area so you don’t have to wait at the busy main bar.
Another great thing about the club is that there is a huge outside patio area. Although it is freezing right now, in the summer it will be a great spot to hang out when the place becomes packed.
But besides those two attractions The Station has a lot of work to do. The DJ was very lack luster. Even though he played an array of different music genres anywhere from ’80’s dance music, club hits, techno and rock, the way he tried to blend the music left club goers confused. At some times the dance floor became empty because of the inconsistency of the DJ.
Also the drinks were priced a little high, $7 for a well drink with a mixer is a little expensive. Take it from me — I usually don’t complain about drink prices but if you are going to pay for cover and drinks the well drinks should be priced a lot lower.
With a little work I think that The Station could become the ‘it’ place to go. My only wish is that there could be a club like this in Sacramento. I really enjoyed the setup of the club; there was plenty of room and it wasn’t like many Sacramento clubs where it takes you 30 minutes to walk across the room.
If you are looking to have a good time and don’t mind the commute The Station is a great place to go. My only suggestion is to wait awhile to go so that the management can work out all the kinks.
