January 7, 2007
Harvard Law School graduate Nicolas C. Vaca will discuss his book, “The Presumed Alliance,” in a lecture campus community on Thursday ?” the event is hosted by the Serna Center.
In his novel, Vaca, an award-winning journalist and lawyer, wrote about “The Unspoken Conflict Between Latinos and Blacks and What it Means for America,” which is the subtitle to his book.
Santos Torres Jr., director of the Serna Center, said Vaca has many things to say about Latinos and current issues and called his new book an exceptional read ?” and that is one of the reasons why he was invited to speak to the campus.
“It’s an important book, and it covers a core issue of Latinos, the fastest growing demographic,” Torres said.
Immigration will also be a topic of his lecture.
“(He) is going to tie the current issue of this focus: relationships between African Americans and Latinos,” Torres said.
Torres said the lecture is a part of a series featuring authors of books regarding Latino issues and of books published by faculty as well.
The series of lectures have been well attended, Torres said, and he expects the same for this event.
The lecture will begin at 1:30 p.m., and a book signing will be held after the lecture.
Books will be available for sale the day of the event.
