Sacramento State?s women?s basketball team can?t seem to get any breaks this season.

The Hornets lost to Weber State 76-56 at the Dee Events Center on Thursday, and lost again to Idaho State 75-53 on Saturday.

With the two losses, the Hornets losing streak, which began last season, extended to 32 games.

The Hornets have a record of 0-22 this season, including an 0-9 record in the Big Sky Conference.

Weber State caught fire in the first half, making 17 of their first 25 shots. Four players were in double figures for the Wildcats, led by Crystal Howe?s 14 points.

The Wildcats cooled off in the second half, shooting a meager 29.7 percent, while scoring only 34 points.

“Our defense went up in the second half,” Sac State head coach Carolyn Jenkins said.

On Saturday, Idaho State started off slowly , shooting only 21.6 percent from the field in the first half. The Hornets were close at halftime down only 27-20, but the tides turned as the Bengals went on a 27-10 run in the second half. The Bengals shot 57.7 from the field, making 15-of-26 shot attempts.

The Bengals were also connecting from beyond the arc.”(Idaho State?s) 6-8 three pointers made the difference in the second half,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins attributes her teams losses to their poor shooting.

“If we shoot above 40 percent in the game, we will win,” Jenkins said.

Despite the low field goal percentage, Sophomores Alyson Thurman and Sydney Gatson were still able to get into double figures in both games.

Thurman had 13 points and five rebounds, while Gatson put up 10 points and four rebounds against Weber State. Against Idaho State, Thurman posted 12 points and three rebounds, while Gatson had 16 points and seven rebounds.

“Sydney Gatson is having some career numbers, and Alyson Thurman has found her shooting touch,” Jenkins said.

Kristine Knowlton also played well over the weekend, averaging 9.5 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

“(Knowlton) has a good work ethic, and plays hard,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins feels the team is getting good experience, and continues to remain confident with her team.

“Hang in there,” says Jenkins to the fans. “We are building our team in the right direction.”

The Hornet?s next game will be at home against Northern Arizona. Tip-off will be 7:05 PM at Hornet Gym.
