Tower Club mixes it up
August 28, 2001
Sacramento?s nightlife just got a little hotter. 1517 Broadway has been a popular location for such nightclubs as Melarkey?s and Johnny Love?s, but since June 2000 the Tower Club has made a home here. This 21-and-over club gives Friday and Saturday nights a classy, high-energy feel with a dance club that features three rooms where local and nationally known DJs mix house music beats until 2 a.m.
A $10 cover on Friday and Saturday nights gets you a pretty big production. Fridays are college nights with drink specials and music in three rooms. The back room is disco, the zebra lounge is top forty and spinning in the main room are resident DJs Jake Esparza and Dizzy. DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Jeno and Mark Farina have also been known to fly in. Friday?s crowd falls between 300 and 400 people.
With two bars, three rooms and a patio, Saturday nights pull in between 400 and 700 people. On the main stage, resident DJ Jake Esparza takes his sound to new heights with local talent such as DJs LOS, Rick V., Corey Pittman, Jonathan, Pat Russi, and Beau Renzi. Each DJ offers a unique sound for people to dance to all night.
“It doesn?t matter if Saturday?s crowd is all about silicon and Rolexes, as long as they?re dancing. And that?s what Saturdays are all about,” Esparsa said.
Tower Club owner-manager and Sacramento State graduate Ameen Hofioni had a vision of a nightclub that is now becoming a reality. Because Hofioni is not concerned with making a quick buck, he has treated Tower Club as a home.
“This is a quality nightclub and we are in for the longevity not quick money,” Hofioni said.
Hofioni describes the dress code as “funky not junky” and “quality people wearing quality clothing.”
Sac State senior Sara Solomon describes Tower Club as having “a safe environment, friendly bartenders, great drinks and the DJs are off the hook!”
The difference between Tower Club and other clubs in Sacramento is the entertainment. With a fashion show-like feel, quality sound systems, fog machines, laser light shows and a vast selection of DJs, Tower Club leaves its customers wanting more.
