Melina is a junior majoring in journalism. The Spring 2026 semester will be her second semester on The State Hornet and her first semester as a copy editor. Previously, she wrote for The Connection, the student-run newspaper for Cosumnes River College before transferring to Sacramento State. She hopes to find work in a newsroom following The Hornet in order to continue her passion of sharing voices through the explorative medium of journalism.

NBC Bay Area reporter Gia Vang graduated from Sacramento State in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in consumer sciences. Today, she is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and co-founder of the Very Asian Foundation.

State Hornet alumnus, John Ferrannini, graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications. Today, he works at the Bay Area Reporter where he has reported in Israel to locally in San Francisco.

Sacramento State hosted six panelists to discuss cannabis research in health and exercise Friday, Nov. 21. The panelists explored how cannabis impacts performance and healing in their presentations.

The Pop-Up Shop creates a space for student-owned businesses to sell their items to Sacramento State students and faculty. Both student connection and real-world business skills are grown in The Pop-Up Shop.
