NAK takes the fifth

Nu Alpha Kappa will host its fourth annual ” Cinco de Mayo Celebration” today, at the Joe Serna Jr. Plaza. The event will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year?s celebration will open with a four-man conjunto group from Sacramento called “Los Mexicanos,” which will dazzle the crowd with old nortenos and corridos from Mexico.
During the celebration, Nu Alpha Kappa will honor its Chicano/Latino Faculty of the year, Anthropology Professor Sam Rios. He is considered a standout on campus and in the community. Other performances will be a 16-year-old Latin sensation by the name of “Jose B” and a three-man guitar group, “Trio Sonora,” who will play euphoric Mexican classic songs.
The events are free and various vendors will be on hand to sell Mexican food, frozen fruit bars and refreshments. La Vaquera, 1240 AM, Spanish radio station will be live with prize giveaways. In addition to today?s events, NAK will have a fund-raising dance, “Nakahlua,” Thursday, at 9:30 p.m., at the SES Hall, 10427 Stockton Blvd. Power 105.5 will play the best of Latin house, house, merengue and salsa. The cost of admission is $10.
