Hittin’ the slopes

Looking to hit the slopes this winter?
Check out Sacramento State’s ski club, which grabs the skis, poles and boards with regularity. The club costs $20 for Sac State students.
The club will also be holding its’ 37th Annual Ski Swap on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ski Swap will be held in the CSUS North Gym. On sale will be over $1 million in merchandise.
The Ski Swap will cost $3 for students, and $5 for non-students.
“The swap will have everything. Both New and used equipment, and Resorts will be their giving away lift tickets,” club member Joe Ongaro said.
“Assuming the ski swap does well, we’ll be able to do a ski lease for a cabin in Tahoe,” said Jarod Amalong, who is in his fourth year with the club. “We will open (the cabin) up to members for $5-per night.”
The cabin will be leased through February and March.
The club also makes an annual, weeklong trip to Whistler, Canada, which is ranked the No. 1 ski resort in North America by Ski Magazine.
“(Whistler) has been the highlight of the year for the club,” Amalong said. “It’s a week you won’t forget.”
The trip, which will be made in mid-January, costs club members $560 for six nights stay, and three days of lift tickets.
“The ski club is an organization out there to offer students a year-round atmosphere,” Amalong said. “The benefits far outway the cost.”
The club, which is open to skiers of all abilities, meets on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., usually in Hinde Auditorium in the University Union.
