The Sacramento State volleyball team has won three straight matches after a sweep over Montana State University on Thursday night at the Nest.

With their second straight sweep, the Hornets improved their record to 19-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. They remain in third place in the Big Sky, two games behind Northern Arizona University and Idaho State University.

The Hornets set a new school record with a hitting percentage of .467. The previous hitting percentage record in the program was .452 against Idaho State on Nov. 11, 2004.

“I was really happy with how we played tonight,” said Sac State coach Ruben Volta. “In every aspect, we passed really well and played really good defense. Lexie [Skalbeck] in particular gave us a lot of opportunities to score and we did.”

More history was made by Sac State middle blocker Courtney Dietrich, who had a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage in the match.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Dietrich said. “I had no idea, I was just playing and our team played so well tonight. [It was] a complete team win.”

A perfect hitting percentage had been accomplished only one other time in school history, by Lisa Beauchene in 2001 against the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

The Hornets continue to dominate at the Nest where they are 8-1 at home and a perfect 5-0 against conference opponents.

Montana State did not have an answer for the Hornets’ offense that had five different players with over eight kills.

Morgan Stanley led the team in kills with 12 and also finished with a season high .435 hitting percentage.

“I think I did [well],” Stanley said. “There’s always areas for me to improve upon and more I can bring to the team.”

For the second straight match Madeline Cannon broke her career high for hitting percentage. Last Saturday, she had a hitting percentage of .737 against Portland State University, but she outdid herself on Thursday hitting .750 with 10 kills.

Lauren Kissell had a strong night with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .364. Kissell has recorded 10 or more kills for 13 straight matches.

The Hornets have one more home match, against the University of Montana (6-15, 2-7 Big Sky,) before hitting the road again. The Hornets are 27-13 overall against Montana all time, but they have lost the last three matches against them. The match starts at 1 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Nest.
