Women finish 6th in Wyoming tournament

The Sacramento State women’s golf team finished the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Invitational in sixth place after the team posted an overall score of 917, which was 53 over par on Sunday.

Katie Dunaway and Astha Madan both finished the tournament tied for 18th.

Dunaway had her best round in the second where she finished with an overall score of 75 with three consecutive birdies on the last three holes of the round.

Madan also had her best round in the second. She started off well with three birdies and only one bogey on the front nine, but had a double bogey on the 12th hole on the back nine and finished the round with an overall score of 74 just two over par.

Julia Decker, a freshman from Las Vegas, finished the tournament tied for 25th posting an overall score of 231.

She finished with 76 in the first round, an 83 in the second and had her best round of the tournament in the third round with a 73.

In the third round, Decker played consistent on the front nine with seven pars and just two bogeys. On the back nine she had two bogeys as well, but made up a few strokes by making a birdie on the 12th, 14th and the final hole of the tournament.

Both the seniors on the team, Natalie Bodnar and Rockelle Sande, finished the tournament tied for 41st with scores of 245.

Bodnar, who was out all of last season with a broken leg, scored a 76 in the first round, a 80 in the second and a 79 in the third.

Sande had her best round in the second where she posted a score of 75. She had two bogeys on the front nine and two on the back nine but had the only eagle for Sac State on the 14th.

The team will have their next tournament on Oct. 12 at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Washington.
