Northern Colorado sweeps Sacramento State volleyball 3-0

The Northern Colorado Bears had a quick three set win over the Hornets today (25-21, 25-8, 27-25).
The Hornets are now 0-7 in the Big Sky (5-17 overall), and Northern Colorado is 4-3 in conference.
The first set was Sacramento State’s best game hitting .300. The team had 16 kills in this set and 30 attacks. The Bears hit .269 in this set but were able to pull out a win over the Hornets at 25-21. With a close first set score, one reason for the loss could be the seven errors the Hornets allowed, opposed to the Bears four.
The second set had Sac State hitting a match low at -.115, and the Bears hitting a match high .417. This was the quickest set of the match with the Hornets coming up short at 25-8. The women only managed four kills and 26 attacks.
Coach Ruben Volta said that the second match was an all around bad set for the Hornets.
“We played very poorly and Northern Colorado played really well,” said Volta.
In the final set both teams hit .143. The Hornets had their highest amount of attacks in this set at 56, 16 kills and eight errors. The final score of this set was 27-25.
Freshman setter Kennedy Kurtz led the Hornets hitting 1.000. Junior outside hitter Sloan Lovett (.091) led the women with 11 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Morgan Stanley (.075) was close behind witho ten kills. Stanley also had the most attacks with a total of 40, and Lovett with 33.
Sacramento State ended the match with a total of 112 attacks, 36 kills and 22 errors.
Volta said that after the game the women were very disappointed in how they played and were not satisfied with their loss.
“I think the players did most of the talking in the locker room, they were obviously not happy with how they played,” Volta said.
