Hornets stay in postseason contention with win over Montana State

Sacramento State’s volleyball team moved closer to making the Big Sky Tournament Thursday with a road victory over Montana State.
With the win, the Hornets continue to hold onto the sixth spot in the Big Sky Conference. The top six teams advance to the postseason tournament.
The Hornets defeated the Bobcats (6-24, 4-15) in four sets (28-26, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23) to improve to 15-15 overall and 10-9 in conference play.
Freshman outside hitter Morgan Stanley had 18 kills, while fellow outside hitter, sophomore Sloan Lovett, had 16 kills and a .351 hitting percentage to lead Sac State.
As a team, Sac State hit .247 and collected 58 kills while holding its opponent to a .229 percentage.
Montana State freshman outside hitter Kennadie Clute led her team with 22 kills and sophomore middle blocker Natalee Godfrey hit .450 on the night.
Thursday’s victory was key for the Hornets as seventh seeded Northern Colorado defeated Southern Utah to remain within a game in the standings.
Sac State will conclude its season Saturday against Montana. The Grizzlies beat the Hornets in straight sets back on Oct. 18. The match begins at 6 p.m.
